THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

The initial inspiration for this project was birds; birds
experience few borders or boundaries. We brainstormed,
wove in and out of ideas, discovered we could
conceptualize forever, and then time dictated that we
begin.
Certain boundaries or limitations presented themselves:
the size of our piece, the difficulty of the physical work,
how to make it a truly collaborative piece, being fair and
open but also figuring out when an idea, good as it might
be, needed to be discarded. We realized that we were
experiencing the borders and boundaries of applying two
separate and creative minds to a singular project.
As to be expected, we encountered misinterpretations and
misconceptions but we balanced more heavily into happy
excitement and astonishment at how well we generated
thoughts and how our thoughts were so in tune, hopscotching
and knitting all the pieces together.
The theme of the project is reflected here by our
collaborative experience with the personal borders and
boundaries we had come to respect, and also overcome.
We had to bridge the borders of unfamiliarity and cross
the boundaries of singular thinking.
We are new to our friendship, and the partnership in this
project taught us much more about each other than we
would have otherwise had the opportunity to know. By
sharing, being receptive and respectful, we opened a point
of access for our ideas to develop and merge.
