Artist Statement
Drawing is my primary medium, and like others with a contemporary art practice, I play with a more expansive definition of this discipline that goes beyond and includes, the pencil and pen. Untraditional materials associated with drawing, such as thread, yarn and paper mache, serve to support a more graphic and less painterly approach to my art making.
In the larger body of my work, I am exploring the connections between this human experience and that which is pure, basic and natural. The division between the two seems to widen with humanity’s progress and development. Through the art making exercise, I am attempting to narrow the gap, and to examine the parallels from a socio-political and psychological viewpoint.
The development of conceptual content through symbolism and allegory, representation and abstraction, enables me to explore the interconnectedness of my emotional life, the human condition and the natural world.
